Sada Sumareh a Gambian British Army sergeant, on Friday 22nd December 2023 donated a consignment of school materials to Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) Education Services in a ceremony held at the school ground in Yundum barracks.
Sergeant Sumareh, fondly called “King of Kabul hailed from Churchilstown in the Kanifing Municipality. He left for the United Kingdom in 2005 and joined the British Army in 2008. He rose through the ranks and files of the army and attained the rank of a sergeant through hard work and dedication to duties. Still in active service, the donor was part of the British contingents that served with distinctions in Afghanistan in 2013/2017 and in Iraq in 2016.
According to the donor, the donation was not the first of its kind, noting he has been donating to 1 Infantry Battalion with sports gears, uniforms and other things. He explained that the gesture will be continuous and that by next week another consignment shall be due for donation to 1 Infantry Battalion.
Deputizing for the Chief of Defense Staff Gambia Armed Forces, Major General Mamat O Cham, the commandant Defense headquarters Camp Lieutenant Colonel Kuluteh Manneh thanked the donor for the magnificent gesture. He advised the teachers and the students of the school to put the donated items into good use.
Also speaking on the occasion was the Chief Executive Officer of GAF Education Services Major Momodou Camara. Major Camara expressed profound thanks and appreciation for the donated items and prayed for a long lasting partnership with the donor. Similar thanks and appreciation were given by the Principal of the school W02 Correa Paul.
The donated items included sport wears, hand balls, clothings computers, stationery and other school materials all of which on the courtesy of Abberley Hall private school in UK to Sergeant Sada Sumareh.
The ceremony was attended by family and friends of the donor, students, their parents and a cross section of officers,men and women of both 1infantry Battalion and GAF camp.
