In a significant development, executive members of the 14th Education Students Association-UTG (EDUSA) met The Vice President of The Gambia, H.E Mohammed B.S Jallow at the State House, today. The purpose of their visit unfolded in three distinct phases.
Providing Background on EDUSA: The delegation commenced by offering a comprehensive overview of EDUSA, shedding light on its mission and objectives.
Unveiling Planned Activities: Subsequently, they detailed their upcoming initiatives, including a Nationwide Tour and Students Week, underscoring the association’s commitment to fostering educational engagement.
Seeking Government Support: A pivotal aspect of the meeting was the appeal for support from the Gambia Government, recognizing the integral role it plays in advancing educational goals.
The President of EDUSA, Musa Bah, expressed the council’s joy, stating, “The Vice President is someone who knows the education sector very well. This is why we are very pleased to be here.”
Guiding the proceedings was Mr Ousman Ceesay, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Admin & Finance) at OVP, who chaired the meeting with adeptness.
As an Education Champion, Vice President Jallow shared motivational insights with council members, urging them to persist in their educational pursuits and commendable efforts. He reiterated the government’s unwavering support for the education sector, citing the new UTG Faraba Banta campus operation as tangible evidence of this commitment.
Notably, he underscored the critical need for capacity building among teachers, emphasizing, “You cannot have good students without good teachers. That’s why, at the level of MoBSE, the government is working to enhance capacity.”
In a gesture of collaboration, Vice President Jallow reassured the EDUSA delegation, stating, “Our doors are open, and we will do what we can to support your agenda.”
This engagement marks a pivotal step in the collaborative journey towards advancing education in The Gambia.
