Earlier on Saturday Activista Gambia converged at The Gambia National Assembly of The Gambia to submit women, and smallholder farmers’ demands to the select committees of National Assembly on Agriculture, Environment, and Climate Change.
It could be recalled that in June this year, Activista Gambia received funding from ActionAid International The Gambia, through their LRP 9 to reach communities in Upper Niumi, North Bank Region, to collect their demands called “The Land Rights Campaign”.
A campaign that sought for women access, control and ownership of lands. It was used to collect demands from rural Women and Smallholder Farmers for urgent redress in order to enhance their lives and livelihood.
These campaigns have been a traditional activity for Activista, and a host of success stories have been registered since then, the group said.
Today, women reignited their demands, asking for gardens, clean drinking water, access to affordable fertilizers, construction of cold stores, rehabilitation of their dykes to prevent salt intrusion into their rice fields, and land rights.
