Mbading, I feel that many of my party members are feeling sad and disappointed on the news of Sabally leaving. It is right that you saw talent in him, and you believed that he is a changed man and worthy of being given the benefits of the doubt and will fight to put our party into state house. Your assessment of him to arrive at such conclusion I believe was based more on emotion, kindness and goodwill that you gave to many others who joined the party before him. But he saw something else. He came to exploit your warmth and generosity of spirits for his own interest. He gave the young people hope, by putting himself to be what, based on his track record, he is not. He spoke passionately about the backway issue and other issues facing our young people. But here we are. He once again abandoned the youths, to join the people he refer to as “Kereng kafo”.
He came empty handed, and is leaving empty handed. Leaving the party base intact and committed more than ever to the righteous cause of our country.
While there is no room to gloat here, I forgive those who insulted me, threatened me, called me names and even accused me of things I never did. I was isolated because of him. Folk won’t pick my calls, folk won’t invite me to anything UDP or consider me for any position even those am overqualified for in the diaspora; heck folk won’t even want a selfie with me posted. All because of him. All because I spoke to put him under the microscope. I called on him, that if he wants to be forgiven, he should first of all reconcile the person that he was to the person that he wish to become. That he should get a part time job at the victim centre to champion the cause of the victims to get reparations and justice. This is the least moral gesture he could give back to those whose perpetrator he heartedly supported.
We learn lessons and we move on. But I’ll implore to party supporters that let this not make anyone cynical. UDP is a party of the Gambian people and any Gambian should be welcomed with open arms and given the opportunity to Contribute. I believe there are young people in the party who’re more eloquent, more informed and most importantly has the moral rectitude to be the face and voice of the noble party.
