GPF AND UNICEF DISCUSS PARTNERSHIP TO STRENGTHEN CHILD PROTECTION CAPACITY

The Gambia Police Force and UNICEF, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, held discussions at Police Headquarters in Banjul on a proposed partnership aimed at strengthening police capacity in child protection and children’s rights.
The engagement focused on key areas of cooperation, including curriculum development, training of trainers and the development of practical resource materials to enhance the capacity of police officers handling child-related matters.
A key area discussed was the proposed integration of child protection modules into initial police training, with a view to equipping officers with relevant knowledge and skills from the beginning of their policing careers.
The discussion was led by ACP Marie Tamba, responsible for Gender and Child Protection, and ACP Ousman Kolley, responsible for Planning, while the UNICEF delegation included Emmanuel Milhaud, Child Protection Manager, and Fatou Lette Jallow, Child Protection Specialist.
The proposed partnership forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance professional police response to matters involving children.
