PRESS RELEASE: STATE GUARDS PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN A ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) regrets to inform the general public that a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) occurred this Sunday 13 September 2026 involving soldiers of the State Guards Battalion. The soldiers were travelling on a mission while escorting Lady Sarjo Mballow Barrow when the rear escort vehicle had an accident around Kiang Kolior, Lower River Region en route to Jarra Soma. It was reported that the incident occurred while it was raining heavily around the region.
As a result of the RTA, Lance Corporal Bah Omar lost his life while one (1) soldier remains in a critical condition. Meanwhile, two (2) other soldiers on board the rear escort vehicle are stable and responding to treatment.
While we commiserate with the family of the deceased during these trying times, the GAF High Command prays that Allah grants the deceased eternal peace. Additionally, we pray for a very speedy recovery for those injured.
