Two Notable Gambians Selected to Represent The Gambia at His Majesty King Charles III’s Commonwealth Reception In October 2026

The Gambia High Commission in London is pleased to announce the selection of Mrs. Amie Jarju of Joinhand2Save a Baby and Mr. Lamin Sanneh, Chairman of GAMSCA Glasgow to represent The Gambian community in U.K. at His Majesty King Charles III’s prestigious Commonwealth Reception, scheduled to take place in October.

Their selection reflects their contributions to community development, cultural enrichment, and the promotion of diversity and social cohesion within the United Kingdom. Their presence at this distinguished occasion will provide an opportunity to showcase The Gambia’s rich cultural heritage and highlight the positive contributions of Gambians to the multicultural fabric of British society.

Her Excellency Dr. Fatou Bensouda commends both representatives on their selection and encourages them to proudly uphold and showcase Gambian culture and traditions, carrying the Gambian flag with dignity and distinction.

The Selection Committee Coordinator, Mr. Suntou Touray, reaffirmed the Gambia High Commission’s commitment to recognising individuals who actively contribute to community cohesion, inclusion, and diversity across the United Kingdom. He further emphasised that the selection process was conducted with due consideration, noting that several highly deserving nominees were put forward by independent members of the community.

Last year three Gambians represented Gambians in U.K. at the dinner event, Imam Jaiteh, Pa Ousman Njie and Mrs. Michel Jarra.

Among those nominated for consideration this year were:

* Mr. Mustapha Darboe – UK Jarra Association

* Mr. Bakary Touray – Kombo Sillah Association

* Mr. Laye Marong – Brighton Gambia Association

* Mr. Joseph Pottin – Signun Magnum

* Mr. Arthur Cates – Community Leader

* Mrs. Ya Saye Gaye – Ijaba Mosque

* Mrs. Haddy Saho – Gambia Women Association

* Retired Reverend Femi Cole-Njie
