The 1982 Kerrgi intakes foundation on Thursday 14th December 2023 donated some medical items and consumables to the Gambia Armed Forces Medical Service in a presentation held at Fajara Barracks medical center in Bakau.
Speaking on behalf of the foundation during the handing over of the donated items, the PRO of the foundation Mr Abdul Aziz Foon explained that the foundation was created by the then Gendarmerie and the Gambia Police Force intakes of 1982 in October 2017 and officially registered as a charitable foundation in September 2018.
According to him the objective of the foundation is to empower the families of their demised comrades and also assisting active members and their families who are in need of healthcare and education amongst other needs. He underlined that the foundation is only charitable and non political, religious and tribal. Foon noted that the foundation is committed to building a strong institution dedicated to the pursuit of mutual understanding, love and strong sense of cultural values and brotherhood.
Receiving the donated items on behalf of the Gambia Armed Forces Medical Service and by extension the Chief of Defense Staff Gambia Armed Forces Maj Gen Mamat O Cham, the Chief Medical Officer of the Gambia Armed Forces Medical Service Lt Col Dr. Musa kah thanked the donors for the noble and magnificent gesture to GAF. He posited that the donated items will go a long way in alleviating some of the problems that GAF faces in quality service delivery to its personnel and by extension to the civilians who always come for medical assistance.
The donated items included 6 cartons of baby wrappers, 17 boxes of dressing materials, diapers, gloves, urine bags, syringes amongst others. The ceremony was graced by a cross section of GAF officers, men and women of GAF and some members of the 1982 Kerrgi Intakes Foundation.
