BAC Pours D6 Million Into 2026 Scholarship Support for Over 200 Students

Brikama Area Council (BAC) has announced the payment of D6 million in educational scholarship support for more than 200 students enrolled at eight institutions for the 2026 academic year.

BAC Chairman Yankuba Darboe made the announcement in a Facebook post, saying the payments form part of the council’s welfare commitments to support students in need across the West Coast Region.

According to the chairman, the payments were distributed as follows:

University of The Gambia: D3 million

International Open University: D1 million

American International University: D1 million

University of Education: D501,266

SUPDECO University: D275,000

Task Crown: D150,000

Sami Institute: D39,400

Grace Institute: D34,334

Darboe said the initiative marks the third consecutive year that BAC has provided educational support to students in the region.

He described the payments as part of the council’s commitment to assisting needy students and contributing to education in the West Coast Region.

The announcement comes as local councils continue to face public scrutiny over how public funds are allocated and the impact of council programmes on residents.

BAC said the scholarship initiative reflects its broader commitment to serving communities across the West Coast Region.

The chairman concluded his post with the message: “Don’t Steal, Don’t Lie, JobRek!”
