KMC Project Row: Karamo Ceesay Rejects Nyawuru Komma’s Claims Over €3 Million Funding and Waste Bins

Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Councillor Karamo Ceesay has rejected several allegations made by Nyawuru Komma concerning projects associated with KMC and Talib Ahmed Bensouda, describing some of the claims as inaccurate.

In his response, Councillor Ceesay addressed questions surrounding the reported €3 million project, explaining that the stated amount was not received by KMC as physical cash. According to him, the funds that were received were properly utilised, alongside KMC’s own contributions towards the project.

Ceesay also provided clarification on the weight bridge and solar components of the project. He said these components were not implemented because of a lack of available funds.

On waste management, the councillor disputed claims that the project delivered 25,000 waste bins. He said the project instead delivered 10,000 waste bins, one skip truck and four skip bins, insisting that the figure of 25,000 waste bins was false.

Ceesay further rejected claims concerning a road project, describing the allegations as false, although he did not provide additional details in his response.

He also disputed information regarding the MMC grant, saying the figures or claims presented about the grant were inaccurate.

On the issue of parks, Ceesay rejected the claim that each park was valued at D3.5 million, saying that assertion was also false.

The exchange highlights growing disagreements over the implementation, funding and reported value of projects undertaken during Talib Ahmed Bensouda’s tenure at KMC.

While Ceesay has offered his version of the figures and project outcomes, the conflicting claims underline the need for documentary evidence and clarification from the relevant institutions to establish the exact amounts received, expenditures made and projects delivered.
