Njundu Badjie Appointed AMI National Director for The Gambia
Mr. Njundu Badjie, popularly known as SORRA, has been appointed National Director of African Music Icons (AMI) for The Gambia, marking the organisation’s official expansion into the Gambian music industry.
The appointment places The Gambia within AMI’s national awards structure, which spans all 54 African countries, alongside its regional and continental award categories.
AMI is scheduled to host its 2026 Awards on November 15 in South Africa, featuring more than 100 nominees across 20 categories in celebration of musical excellence and talent across the continent.
Badjie’s appointment is expected to strengthen AMI’s presence in The Gambia and create a platform for Gambian musicians to gain recognition within a broader African awards framework.
With national, regional and continental categories, AMI aims to spotlight and celebrate musical excellence across Africa, while providing artists and industry professionals with greater visibility beyond their respective countries.
